Sgt. Amber K. Kiper, a truck commander from Arcadia, Mich., and Pfc. Meghan L. Granata, a gunner from Pioneertown, Calif., pull security in Ninewa province while awaiting Q-West's quick reaction force for vehicle recovery, Jan. 18. Both serve with 3rd Platoon, 204th Military Police Company, 519th MP Battalion, headquartered in Fort Polk, La. One of the platoon's gun trucks became mired in a sinkhole during a routine patrol, requiring the Q-West recovery QRF - manned by C Company, 2nd Battalion, 198th Combined Arms, 155th Brigade Combat Team, out of Oxford and Indianola, Miss. - to extract and return the truck to base.
