A piece of an Art Deco-style federal eagle, built in the 1930s ( left) sits beside the replacement eagle designed to take it's place on the entrance tower of the New York National Guard's Harlem Armory in New York City, at the Boston Valley Terra Cotta factory in Orchard Park, N.Y. The replacement is crafted 16 percent larger than the original so that when it is fired in a kiln it will shrink to the actual size. The $2.2 million facade project, contracted to STV Inc., has received the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from the New York Landmarks Commission. ( Photo courtesy STV )
