A recruit of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, climbs out of the pool after completing the 25-meter swim portion of the Water Survival Basic Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, April 11. Recruits were instructed to not touch the bottom of the pool at any time during the swim or they would instantly fail and have to return for remedial training to try again. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate June 10.
