Recruits of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, wait to perform the 10-second gear strip during the Water Survival Basic Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, April 11. This qualification will be valid for the recruits for two years. Depending on their military occupational specialty, they may go through higher qualification levels. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate June 10.
