Mr. Mike Huffman, International Military Student Office program director, speaks to students at Hanks High School in El Paso, Texas. As part of the U.S. Army Sergeant's Major Academy outreach program, Huffman arranged for Sgt. Maj. Jefferson Ntabana of Rwanda to speak to the Hanks High School Economic Science AP Class, Feb. 12. As part of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy International Military Student Office program, Ntabana provided a detailed briefing on the Rwandan armed forces tactics and techniques to prevent poaching of endangered species and conservation efforts to protect forests. The sergeant major also stressed the adverse effects of conflict and climate on a delicately balanced ecosystem of rainforest, African wildlife and agriculture. As part of USASMA's community outreach program, IMSO is dedicated to offering unprecedented education learning experiences by supplementing course curriculums in Social Studies, Environmental Sciences, Geography and foreign language programs. "Our international student body is ethnically and culturally diverse," said Mr. Mike Huffman, IMSO director. "And each student has prepared 38-45 minute briefings on their country, culture and national ideology." Multi-national students like Ntabana study at USASMA, the U.S. Army's premier noncommissioned officers education institute, taking home a much better analytical approach to their profession once completing the course. USASMA is currently on pace to deliver degree granting programs to enlisted members of U.S. armed forces within the next five to seven years.
