Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) service members and locals of Capiz, Philippines, participate in a community cleanup of San Nicolas Elementary School in support of Exercise Balikatan 2016, April 13, 2016. The school was one of three schools chosen as part of the humanitarian civic assistance project program during this year’s exercise. Balikatan, translated as “shoulder-to-shoulder” in Filipino, characterizes the spirit of the exercise that focuses on Philippine and U.S. partnership and commitment to the mutual defense treaty.
