PORTLAND, Ore. (April 7, 2016) Scott Littlefield, left, Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program manager, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), talks with Rear Adm. Robert Girrier, director, unmanned warfare systems, Richard Bowers, Leidos, and Rear Adm. Mat Winter, chief of naval research, prior to a christening ceremony for Sea Hunter, an entirely new class of unmanned ocean-going vessel. DARPA, in conjunction with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), is working to fully test the capabilities of the vessel which is able to travel thousands of miles over the open seas for months at a time and carry several innovative payloads, with the goal of transitioning the technology to Navy operational use once fully proven.
