African Partnership Station West Commander, Capt. Cindy Thebaud, and APS Operations Officer, Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Labenz, speak to a group of 17 Armed Forces of Liberia Coast Guardsman while transiting to the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock-landing ship USS Gunston Hall. The Liberian Coast Guardsmen are embarking Gunston Hall for in-port and at-sea training in maritime safety and security as part of APS. Gunston Hall is on a scheduled deployment in West Africa in support of APS West, an international initiative developed by Naval Forces Europe and Naval Forces Africa that aims to improve maritime safety and security in West and Central Africa.
