A drill instructor of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, instructs a recruit to respond louder during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program session at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, June 13. Drill instructors supervised the training process to make sure each recruit used the correct technique. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 19.
