U.S. Marines and soldiers with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force practice riot control formations and tactics, June 19, 2016, at Taurama Barracks, as part of Exercise Koa Moana. Koa Moana is the first direct training exercise between U.S. Marines and the PNGDF. The exercise is designed to increase interoperability and relations by sharing infantry, law enforcement, medical and engineering skills. The Marines and Sailors with the task force are originally assigned to I and III Marine Expeditionary Force. The PNGDF soldiers are with 1st Battalion, 1st Royal Pacific Islands Regiment, PNDGF.
