Chief Warrant Officer August Meadows, a UH-60 Black Hawk pilot from Company C, 2nd Battalion, 224 Aviation Regiment, Maryland National Guard, speaks during an awards ceremony August 3 at Logistical Support Area Anaconda, Iraq, while Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli, Multi National Corps-Iraq commander listens on. Meadows and seven others from his company received Air Medals for thier actions of recovering two downed AH-64 Apache pilots July 13. The crews were in Baghdad when they heard a call over the radio asking for immediate ground and air support. Within minutes, they plotted the location of the downed aircraft and while one of the two helicopters landed to load the two downed pilots, Meadows and his crew remained at low orbit and provided security for the other aircraft. The pilots were then flown safely to a nearby forward operating base just outside of Baghdad.
