MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Major Gen. Joseph L. Osterman, commanding general of Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command, unveils a memorial to an audience comprised of MARSOC personnel and WWII Raiders during a ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., July 21, 2016. The memorial represents the original Marine Raiders of WWII, who lost their lives in the Pacific campaigns. It also signifies MARSOC’s raider legacy, and commitment to the Marine Raider ethos. To the left of the Raider memorial, not pictured, stood a MARSOC memorial representing those who embraced the unconquerable spirit and honors all of the Marines who have lost their lives since the inception of MARSOC. The names of fourteen MARSOC Marines who lost their lives since April, 2014, were recognized and a set of identification tags commemorating each Marine was placed onto the memorial. Afterwards, Osterman presented pins to the family members of the fallen in order to fortify the relationship between them and MARSOC. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Ryan C. Mains/ Released)
