180807-N-NB544-037 EAST CHINA SEA (Aug. 7, 2016) Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) covers the flight deck during a system test on board amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). AFFF is a mixture of water and highly concentrated detergent used on the flight deck and hangar bay to smother fires. Bonhomme Richard is the flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, forward-deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
