U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Commander, U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney (center left); the Chief of Naval Operations, U.S. Navy Adm. John M. Richardson (fourth from left); the Director of National Intelligence, the Honorable James R. Clapper (fourth from right); and members of their staffs and families; pose for a photo during a dinner at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., Aug. 23, 2016. The engagement occurred between Richardson’s and Clapper’s respective visits to USSTRATCOM Headquarters and enabled both leaders to meet with Haney simultaneously. During his visit, Richardson participated in discussions with Haney and other USSTRATCOM leaders on modernization of the sea-based leg of the nuclear triad and other areas of collaboration and mutual interest. Clapper’s discussions with Haney and other USSTRATCOM leaders focused on the command's intelligence requirements and the importance of collaboration and integration between USSTRATCOM and the intelligence community. Both leaders also conducted town halls during their visits to the base. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
