Navy for Moms member Maribel Ramos of Bronx, NY., whose son Seaman Nicholas Santa is currently serving in the Navy, participates in the third annual Staten Island Navy for Moms barbeque held in honor of service members arriving for Fleet Week New York 2010. "Having a son that is in the Navy, it was a great honor to offer a barbeque to service members here at Fleet Week," said Marible Ramos of Bronx. "My son Seaman Nicholas Santa is stationed aboard USS John C. Stennis and it's nice to offer a home cooked meal to our Sailors and Marines and see their appreciation that they have for our efforts in putting it together for them." The group was created in 2008 for the mothers and loved ones of those who are currently serving or considering serving in the U.S. Navy. The group gives members a support group to discuss issues with others who share common concerns. Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays May 26 through June 2, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships and community visits and charitable outreach by the more than 3,000 participating Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen.
