Navy for Moms member Barb Cleary of Riverdale, N.J., whose son Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Cleary is currently serving in the Navy, participates in the third annual Staten Island Navy for Moms barbeque held in honor of service members arriving for Fleet Week New York 2010. "It's nice to know that there are people out there that appreciate what we do," said Cleary. The group was created in 2008 for the mothers (and loved ones) of those who are currently serving or considering serving in the U.S. Navy. The group gives members a support group to discuss issues with others who share common concerns. Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays May 26 through June 2, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships and community visits and charitable outreach by the more than 3,000 participating Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen.
