Marines with Companies B and C, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, observe an MV-22B Osprey preparing to land during a free-fall training aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Oct. 4, 2016. The training gives Marines the experience needed to infiltrate locations unattainable to vehicles. This method also reduces the amount of noises created during insertion, which lessens the chances of being compromised. 1st Marine Division is employed as the ground combat element of I Marine Expeditionary Force and provides the ground combat forces necessary for ship to shore forcible entry operations.
