    U.S. Navy

Marines with Companies B and C, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, simulate insertion behind enemy lines during a free-fall training aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Oct. 4, 2016. The multi-mission parachute system allows for a further offset which makes insertion less noticeable by allowing Marines to glide from further distances. This kind of insertion is one way Marines gain crucial information without being detected. 1st Marine Division is employed as the ground combat element of I Marine Expeditionary Force and provides the ground combat forces necessary for ship to shore forcible entry operations.
