Bilateral Defense Committee Co-Chair Dr. Thobelile Gamade, Chief of South African Defense Policy, Strategy and Planning, presents an African maiden statuette to her counterpart, Amanda Dory, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs, at the conclusion of the 2016 meeting October 26 at the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The senior leaders of the South African National Defense Forces discussed training and exercise opportunities for 2017 during the U.S. and Republic of South Africa. The meeting was hosted by the New York National Guard, a National Guard Bureau state partner with South Africa since 2003. The State Partnership Program (SPP) is a U.S. Department of Defense program managed by the National Guard that links individual U.S. states with partner countries around the world.
