Marines with Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, set up radio communication during a field exercise aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., October 18, 2016. The purpose of the training is to prepare all elements of the unit to work in cohesion for the upcoming Marine Corps Readiness Evaluation. This evaluation ensures readiness to deploy. The 1st Marine Division is employed as the ground combat element of I Marine Expeditionary Force and provides the ground combat forces necessary for ship to shore forcible entry operations.
