Marines and hospital corpsman with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, practice first aid and medical evacuation procedures from a battalion aid station during a field exercise aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., October 18, 2016. The purpose of the training is to prepare all elements of the unit to work in cohesion for the upcoming Marine Corps Readiness Evaluation. Marines and corpsmen must train in life saving skills to maintain proficiency in first aid and medical evacuations. The 1st Marine Division is employed as the ground combat element of I Marine Expeditionary Force and provides the ground combat forces necessary for ship to shore forcible entry operations.
