A Marine with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, secures his mission oriented protective posture gear in preparation for a chemical assault drill during a field exercise aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., October 20, 2016. The purpose of the training is to prepare all elements of the unit to work in cohesion for the upcoming Marine Corps Readiness Evaluation to ensure readiness to deploy. Every Marine must be proficient using their MOPP gear and be aware while operating in toxic environments. The 1st Marine Division is employed as the ground combat element of I Marine Expeditionary Force and provides the ground combat forces necessary for ship to shore forcible entry operations.
