Marines from the Recruit Training Regiment stand around a cake as a part of the cake detail during the Recruit Training Regiment’s cake cutting ceremony at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Nov. 10. The cake cutting ceremony was formalized by Gen. Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr., 20th Commandant of The Marine Corps, and was later written into the Marine Corps Drill and Ceremonies Manual.
