Daniel Gaither, 17 of Riverside, and Anthony Webber, 18 of Pell City, attempt to wrestle in oversized sumo wrestling suits during a recruiting event held July 17, at the newly remodeled Alabama Army National Guard Springville armory. Local Army Guard recruiter, Staff Sgt. Sheyra Rogers, generated the event in an effort to inform the community about the Guard and about the opening of the new army which houses the Alabama Guard’s 208th Chemical Company. Rogers says she wants the community to know that the even though the armory’s doors haven’t officially opened, she is still recruiting for the unit which just returned home from an overseas deployment. The armory’s official grand opening is slated for later in September.
