Josh Wheeler (left), 19, and Tyler Bovia (right), 18, of Pell City, Ala., race to the finish line in an inflatable hamster ball during a recruiting event at the newly remodeled Alabama Army National Guard Springville armory July 17. Local Army Guard recruiter, Staff Sgt. Sheyra Rogers, generated the event in an effort to inform the community about the Guard and the opening of the new armory which houses the Alabama Guard’s 208th Chemical Company. Rogers says she wants the community to know that even though the armory’s doors haven’t officially opened, she is still recruiting for the unit which just returned home from an overseas deployment. The armory’s official grand opening is slated for later in September.
