Capt. Michael S. Beames, the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit's adjutant and Dale City, Va., native, breaks the seal of his M-50 field protective mask during chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense training aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Aug. 27. The MEU was the first unit in the Marine Corps on the east coast to receive the new M-50 gas-mask. The annual training is designed to instill confidence in the mask and ensure the Marines know the proper wear of the equipment. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. John M. Raufmann)
