An MH-60S Knighthawk assigned to the “Wild Cards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 23 (HSC 23) is directed by a handler as it lifts cargo off the fast combat support ship USNS Bridge (T-AOE 10) during a vertical replenishment at sea (VERTREP) with the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Fast combat support ships are used to transport cargo to ships which cannot easily pull into ports to replenish supplies, helping to sustain long periods at sea. During a VERTREP, fresh food and other supplies are transported by helicopter from ship to ship.
