Lt. Michael Kavanaugh, assigned to Navy Entomology Center of Excellence at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla., embarked aboard the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, sets traps for mosquitoes and sand flies at the Guatemala Kaibil Special Forces base in Puerto Barrios, Gautemala. Kavanaugh is setting the traps to test the insects for malaria and dengue. Iwo Jima is anchored off the shore of Guatemala supporting the Continuing Promise 2010 humanitarian civic assistance mission. The assigned medical and engineering staff embarked aboard Iwo Jima are working with partner nation's teams to provide medical, dental, veterinary and engineering assistance to eight different nations.
