Lt. Col. Walter Chwastyk, commander of the 1185th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion, and Command Sgt. Major John Kirchner, command sergeant major for the 1185th DDSB, case the 1185th DDSB colors signifying the completion of their deployment to Port Ash Shuaiba, Kuwait. During their deployment the 1185th DDSB provided support to Operation Nickel II, the largest logistical operation since WWII. They were responsible for loading and discharging over 140 vessels, with over 14,500 pieces of retrograded cargo through Port Ash Shuaiba so that the equipment could be reset and returned to war fighting formations throughout the Army.
