During a visit to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' North Atlantic Division (NAD) headquarters at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, N.Y., Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, 54th U.S. Army Chief of Engineers (left), presented the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal to Mr. Thomas Harnedy (right) for his work as acting NAD Programs Director at an award ceremony on March 22, 2017.
The de Fleury Medal is an award of the Army Engineer Association, and it "is named for a French Engineer Francois Louis Tesseidre de Fleury who volunteered to serve with the American Army in its fight for independence from Britain during the American Revolutionary War," according to the association website. De Fleury assumed command of Continental Army Soldiers after senior officers fell during the nighttime assault on and capture of Stony Point, N.Y. from British forces during the American Revolution.
