170322-N-FT178-025 U.S. 7TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (March 22, 2017) Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy ship Gwanggaeto (DD 971) transit the 7th Fleet Area of Operations during a maritime interdiction operations bilateral drill between the ROK and the United States. Carl Vinson is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of the U.S. 3rd Fleet in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
