WATERS EAST OF THE KOREAN PENINSULA (March 22, 2017) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), the Republic of Korea Navy destroyer ROKS Gwanggaeto the Great (DDH 971), and USS Mitscher (DDG 57) steam behind USS Stethem (DDG 63) as the ships participate in surface maneuvers with several other U.S. and Republic of Korea Navy ships and submarines during Foal Eagle (FE) 17. FE 17 is a series of annual training events designed to increase readiness to defend the ROK, protect the region, and maintain stability in the Korean Peninsula.
