170317-N-OF713-017 (March 17, 2017) Technical Sergeant Douglas Howerton, pest management craftsman, sets up one of three heating units of the new Bed Bug Thermal Remediation System in a training work space on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to show other pest control personnel how to properly connect its power cords and set its temperature gauge and heat blowers. One heating unit can cover a maximum of 400 square feet, and can raise the temperature within that space to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Additional fans to distribute the heat and a portable generator are also needed to successfully complete the 4 – 6 hours of treatment.
