U.S. Air Force Academy instructor, Maj. William "Kidd" Poteet checks his times as he is followed by 2nd Battalion, 185th Division, Colorado National Guardsman Capt. Robert Killian after both have transitioned from the bike to the running portion of the Iron Man Triathlon World Championship, Oct. 9, while at Kona-Kailua, Hawaii. The grueling race is both a mentally and physically challenging event. The competitors must complete a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike race and then finish with a 26 mile marathon all in one day. The race takes place Oct. 9 and has more than 1,800 competitors.
