U.S. Air Force Academy Instructor, Maj. Willam Poteet crosses the finish line of the Iron Man Triathlon World Championship, Oct. 9, while at Kona-Kailua, Hawaii. Poteet finished second in the military male division, but with the help of 317th Airlift Squadron, joint Base Charleston, S.C. C-17 Globemaster pilot, Capt. Jamie Turner, won the military team competition. The grueling race is both a mentally and physically challenging event. The competitors must complete a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike race and then finish with a 26 mile marathon all in one day. The race takes place Oct. 9 and has more than 1,800 competitors.
