U.S. Coast Guard Command Master Chief Michael Ferreira of the 14th District, Hawaii, runs by the crowd after transitioning from the bike to the run while competing in the Iron Man Triathlon World Championship, Oct. 9, while at Kona-Kailua, Hawaii. The grueling race is both a mentally and physically challenging event. The competitors must complete a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike race and then finish with a 26 mile marathon all in one day. The race takes place Oct. 9 and has more than 1,800 competitors.
