Master Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Esparza, the oldest Marine assigned to the Death Rattlers of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 323, receives the honor of having the second bite of cake during a ceremony celebrating the 235th Marine Corps birthday in the hangar bay aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Esparza passed the cake to the youngest VMFA-323 Marine, signifying the passing of knowledge and tradition from the old to the young within the Marine Corps.
