U.S. Army Maj. General Victor Braden (left), commanding general, 35th Infantry Division, thanks gold star father, retired U.S. Navy Cpt. Thomas Feeks, for his service and sacrifices, Aug. 8, at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. The gold star is given to the immediate family members of veterans who have lost their lives during armed conflict, or certain military operations. Feeks is making the trip with service members participating in Operation Proper Exit, so he may find his closure for the loss of his son, U.S. Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Patrick Feeks, who was killed in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan.
