U.S. Marines and members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force operate M252 81mm medium weight mortar systems with eachother Aug. 13, 2017, in Chitose, Japan, during Northern Viper 2017. The service members spent the day sharing techniques with the members of the JGSDF. Northern Viper maintains and strengthens the United States’ influence in the region and the U.S.-Japan Alliance.
