Cpl. Scott Mecone is a generator mechanic with Combat Logistics Battalion 4 , supporting Northern Viper, Aug. 11-18, 2017. His job is to maintain generator power during the exercise. NV17 tests the interoperability and bilateral capability of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and U.S. Marine Corps forces to enhance regional cooperation between participating nations to collectively deter security threats. “I got to cross-train with a lot of different military occupational specialties that I’ve never trained with before,” said Mecone, a Grand Island, Nebraska, native. “I trained with the Japanese, too, and it has been a great experience.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
