SAINT JOHN, U.S. Virgin Islands (Sept. 13, 2017) A U.S. Coast Guard cutter approaches Saint John in support of Hurricane Irma response to the Virgin Islands. Irma sustained 185-mph winds for 37 hours, the longest any cyclone on the globe has maintained that intensity. The Department of Defense is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Irma to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
