ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (Sept. 13, 2017) An aerial photo of Hurricane Irma damage to property in the Caribbean. Irma sustained 185-mph winds for 37 hours, the longest any cyclone on the globe has maintained that intensity. The Department of Defense is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Irma to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
