SAN DIEGO (Sept. 15, 2017) Chief Machinist’s Mate Trung Hoang receives his anchors from his family during the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) chief petty officer pinning ceremony at Liberty Station, formerly known as Naval Training Center San Diego. Twenty-seven Sailors were promoted to chief petty officer during the ceremony. Makin Island is currently in dry-dock at General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) for a depot-level maintenance availability.
