Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265, Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Air Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, transported 76 barrels of kerosene to distribution points in northern Japan March 19 to be dispersed by the Japan Self-Defense Force to Japanese citizens affected by the earthquake and tsunami. While transporting fuel, the air crew conducts visual reconnaissance missions along the coastline of northern Japan, searching for S.O.S. signals from gatherings of Japanese citizens. The aircraft crew records the coordinates of the signal, then return during a follow-on mission to bring supplies to the displaced citizens.
