171006-N-CM124-001 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Oct. 6, 2017) Command Master Chief Walter E. Pierce Jr., (retired) acknowledges the guests at the Pass-In-Review boot camp graduation ceremony Oct. 6, at Recruit Training Command. Pierce was introduced to the guests as having celebrated the 75th anniversary of his own boot camp graduation. He enlisted in the Navy Oct. 3, 1942 and retired in 1982. He served on active duty in World War II (Pacific Theater) aboard a converted APD (high-speed transports) and during the Korean Conflict on a destroyer escort. Pierce served the remainder of his profession as a citizen/sailor in the Naval Reserve in numerous assignments, his final billet as the command master chief of a Naval Reserve Training Center.
