GROTON, Conn. – Seaman Recruit Pernell Brown holds the strongback steady as Fireman Recruit Kenneth Chou tightens the chain wrench as both learn to patch a high pressure leak during the Dry Lab section of Damage Control Training at Naval Submarine School. Flooding in a submarine can be more dangerous for a crew than in a surface ship. The Damage Control trainer simulates the forward lower level of a submarine engine room and during flooding casualties Sailors must apply classroom learning to stop the leaks and save their ship.
