GROTON, Conn. – Struggling to hold a vertical patch steady, Seaman Kevin Payen and Seaman Apprentic Tyler Smith, with the chain wrench, learn to work as a team and develop confidence in their abilities to master high pressure leaks during the Dry Lab section of Damage Control Training at Naval Submarine School. Flooding in a submarine can be more dangerous for a crew than in a surface ship. The Damage Control trainer simulates the general arrangement of a forward lower level submarine engine room and during casualties Sailors must apply classroom learning to stop the leaks and save their ship.
