David Hammond, assistant command chaplain of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), participates in a volleyball game during a command-sponsored sports day held at Nimitz Park, U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo, as part of a celebration of the U.S. Navy’s 242nd birthday. To celebrate the Navy and build command unity, Sailors competed in a variety of team events, including soccer, flag football, softball, ultimate frisbee, kickball, volley ball, tug-of-war, and a relay race.Bonhomme Richard, forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.
