Dietz, Murphy and Axelson were attending the Mast Stepping ceremony for Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Michael Murphy (DDG 112) at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. Operation Red Wings was the single largest loss of life for Naval Special Warfare since World War II.
