Staff Sgt. Joseph Arcega, a loadmaster with the 36th Airlift Squadron, looks across the ramp of a C-130J Super Hercules after a low-cost, low-altitude airdrop during Operation Christmas Drop Dec. 11, 2017, above the island of Fais. Christmas drop allows aviators with the 36th Airlift Wing to execute professional airlift through dynamic delivery airdrop with unsurveyed drop zones -- world-class airlift training that cannot be obtained virtually anywhere else in the world. The capabilities the unit employs during the missions are unique because we use a method of delivery that is suited to the region. Coast Humanitarian Air Drop (CHAD) takes the low-cost, low-altitude capability to the Pacific theatre. Together, CHAD and LCLA represent a unique Humanitarian Aid/Disaster Relief or wartime capability that enables these crews to respond rapidly anywhere in the area of responsibility.
